Saulkrasti - City of Latvia
Saulkrasti town of Latvia, which lies on the east coast of Gulf of Riga.
Saulkrasti carries its present name since 1933, when the villages of east coast of Gulf of Riga were merged into one common municipal structure, and since 1991 it is a town.
The town is famous for its beautiful, virgin nature and beaches, as a nice place to spend a summertime.
The town motto "The town closer to the Sun. Town which carries the name of the Sun".
A EU funded bypass of the main A1 Motorway between Riga and Tallinn was completed in 2007, which will reduce through traffic, noise pollution and the large amount of lorries.
Saulkrasti has excellent beaches including the sunset trail. The sand beaches run North to South providing for excellent Sunsets
Temperatures in winter are as low as -20c.
Saulkrasti is the seaside city in the Riga District bathed by the Baltic Sea. The city has resulted from the merger of several villages. Saulkrasti offers to travellers many different recreations both in winter and summer. In winter the skiing track operates in Saulkrasti, but summer is the most suitable time for leisure activities related with water – it is possible to rent boats and catamarans, as well as to engage in windsurfing, kite surfing and fishing. Devotees of leisure activities are offered possibilities to play mini-golf, paintball and to enjoy horse-riding. In particular romantics are advised to walk along the Sunset Trail, but those interested in ancient objects should visit the Bicycle Museum. Saulkrasti is a city, where different concerts and festivals are held as well as open-air dances, so characteristic to Latvia, are organized.
