Blonduos - City of Iceland
Blönduós is a small settlement in northern part of Iceland in the county of Austur-Húnavatnssýsla, 245 km from Reykjavík. The town has a population of around 1000, a small 9-hole golf course and is a good base for touring around the Húnaflói area.
Blönduós is a busy town situated at the junction of Route 1 and the glacial river Blanda, whose estuary runs through the town. On a hill above the town is a church with striking architecture that is intended to resemble a volcanic crater.
Because Blönduós does not have a good harbor, the town's major function is to act as a dairy service center for the surrounding farm areas. Fishing and forestry research also play roles in the economy, as does tourism.
The Blönduós Police department is known for its great work and the Icelandic Fine Collection Agency is placed there.
Blönduós region is known for its textile museum, a Romanesque stone church at Thingeyrar, and for excellent fishing spots. The Blanda River, which divide the town in two parts, is one of the best rivers for salmon fishing in Iceland.

Blönduós don't have a lot of hotels which are open all the year round, but during the summer there is a fine selection of cottages, guesthouses, and hotels to choose from. Hotel Blanda is one of the few hotels which are open all the year round.
