Arica - City of Chile
Arica is a port city in northern Chile, located only 18 km south of the border with Peru.
Archaeological research has indicated the site of Arica was inhabited by different native groups for at least ten thousand years. The city was founded by Spanish captain Lucas Martinez de Begazo in 1541, and in 1570 was entitled as La Muy Ilustre y Real Ciudad San Marcos de Arica. This city was since 1545 the port for exporting the silver of Potosí. The city is the capital of the recently created Arica-Parinacota Region .The city's status was not clear until August 29th, 1929, when it was definitely incorporated to the Chilean sovereignty.
The XV Arica and Region is one of Chile's 15 first order administrative divisions. Its capital is Arica. It is also the country's newest region, becoming operational on October 8, 2007. It was created by subdividing the Tarapacá Region and consists of two provinces Arica.
The Arica School is a human potential movement group founded in 1968 by Bolivian-born philosopher Oscar Ichazo .
The school is named after the city of Arica, Chile, where Ichazo once lived and where he led an intensive months-long training in 1970 and 1971 before settling in the United States where the Arica Institute has since been headquartered.
The Arica School's origins began in 1956 when groups of people formed in major cities in South America to study the thoughts that Ichazo was proposing. For fourteen years these different groups studied his teachings. In 1968 Ichazo presented lectures on his theories of Protoanalysis and the Ego-Fixations at the Institute of Applied Psychology in Santiago, Chile.
